Elven Spearmen
Spearmen form the backbone of the Elven cohorts, and they are its true strength. Only those of noble birth are eligible to fight within their ranks, and all are hardened veterans, having honed their killing arts to perfection over many centuries of warfare. Highly disciplined and utterly deadly, they form the bodyguard and core of the armies of the Elven kings. Garbed in exquisite, glittering armour that is at once light and flexible, yet stronger and more resistant to damage than the heaviest of human-made plate mail, they march swiftly and silently to war at their king’s behest.
Armed with slender, stabbing spears, which they wield with consummate skill, and further protected with lightweight, leaf-shaped shields, they are perhaps the finest fighting force that the world has ever seen, easily capable of fighting toe-to-toe with any enemy and be confident of victory. Nevertheless, their numbers are few and dwindling, and the loss of any noble spearman is a cause for much grief and mourning.
Elven Spears
Much like the noble warriors that wield them, Elven spears are slender, delicate and utterly deadly. Crafted using a mixture of artisanship and sorcery, they are deceptively robust despite their fragile appearance, much lighter and yet far stronger than any weapon forged by other races. Indeed, not even the dwarf weapon-smiths can match the Elves in this regard, while any weapon made by human hands appears crude and clumsy in comparison.
No two spears are identical, and each bears a unique name known only to its creator and the one for whom it was made. It is said that a portion of a warrior’s soul is bound within his weapon, and that over time a spear may even develop a form of sentience, a will of its own. Some say that as long as its owner draws breath, an Elven spear never needs sharpening, but that upon the day of the warrior’s death, the spear will turn to dust. Whether there is any truth in these beliefs is known only to the Elves themselves.
