The Walking Dead Wave Two: Negan and Ezekiel Boosters

After looking at the Miles Behind Expansion yesterday, today we’re taking a closer look at the retail exclusive boosters you’ll find in Wave Two. Each Wave of The Walking Dead: All Out War features retail exclusives that weren’t part of the Kickstarter. For Wave Two, this means you’ll be able to pick up the new Negan booster and the Ezekiel booster. NEGAN BOOSTER So, let’s start off by taking a closer look at the Negan booster. Although Kickstarter backers already have a version of Negan, this is a new sculpt of the infamous baseball bat-wielding tyrant, although the abilities on the card will be familiar to those who have the Kickstarter exclusive variant. As you can see Negan is a bit of a beast in combat and he also has a fairly brutal Leader Ability, which allows him to execute a fellow Survivor and give the rest of his gang more actions. Finally, we’ve got a decent use for Liam! Also included in the booster is Negan’s pal Andy. Again, a little like Negan, Andy can use the other Survivors to his advantage by using them to attract roaming Walkers, rather than heading towards him. Cowardly, yes but certainly tactically [...]

The Walking Dead: Miles Behind Us Expansion

Wave Two of The Walking Dead: All Out War is almost here, so we thought we would spend some time on the blog looking at what you’ll find in the next batch of releases, including the Miles Behind Us expansion. While Wave One was set around Rick Grimes waking up in hospital to find Atlanta overrun by Walkers, Wave Two sees the story move out to the countryside, as Rick and the gang meet up with Hershel Greene. Just in case you’re not familiar with the plot, Hershel and his family are holed up in their farm, seemingly safe from the attacks of the undead… however, it’s probably best not to ask what he’s keeping in the barn! The centerpiece of Wave Two is a brand new expansion: Miles Behind Us. In this expansion you’ll find six story driven scenarios that detail the events surrounding Hershel’s farm. The scenarios can be played solo, if you want to experience the story for yourself, or you can play them co-operatively with a friend. Each scenario comes with suggested participants, such as Rick or Glenn. But if you want to try out a different gang to see how they would survive in the [...]

Edge of the Abyss Kings of War Summer Campaign – New Rules

Although the Edge of the Abyss summer campaign may seem like a long way off, now is actually the time to start planning your army. Will you go for an evil army and attempt to rip Mantica apart or will you defend it from destruction? Yesterday, we looked briefly at the background of the summer campaign and talked about the new characters that will be introduced. Today, we wanted to look a little more at the rules of the summer campaign. SUMMER CAMPAIGN RULES Firstly, it’s important to note that the rules/special abilities in the Edge of the Abyss are designed to be used in summer campaign games. They’re not tournament legal (unless the TO wants to include some of the characters/rules) and they do not replace any existing Kings of War rules. In fact, they’re entirely optional! If you want to play a standard game of Kings of War during the summer campaign, then go ahead. But if you fancy trying some more ‘thematic’ rules, then this is the place to take them for a test drive. The Kings of War Rules Committee spent several months designing and tweaking them, after being inspired by the background stories of each [...]

Edge of the Abyss Kings of War Summer Campaign – Introduction

This summer you will have the opportunity to change the face of Mantica forever! In August we will be launching the Edge of the Abyss summer campaign for Kings of War, which will give players around the globe the chance to choose their side, then either destroy or protect the realm of Mantica. During the Mantic Open Day we talked a little bit more about the summer campaign and also teased some of the exciting elements of the event. You can watch the video of Matt and Rob here but, alongside this, over the next few days, we’ll be delving more into the details of the Summer Campaign. Artakl – Ghekkotah Clutch Warden. One of the new heroes for the summer campaign. THE BACKGROUND For centuries it has remained still, but now The Abyss is growing. The denizens of this terrible place have finally unlocked its awful secrets and now it spreads like an open wound across the face of Mantica. Whatever gets in its way – woods, armies, farmlands, mountains, even entire cities – are swallowed into its chaotic depths, where they feed the fires of its cruel inhabitants. The evil races of Mantica are thriving on the terrible [...]

Guide to Warpath: Movement and Terrain

Following on from Yesterday’s post covering the basics of activations and units in Warpath and Firefight, today we’ll look at movement actions and how they can be used on the battlefield. There are two main movement actions: Move and Double Move which are short and long actions respectively. As we covered yesterday, in either Warpath or Firefight a unit can perform one long action or two short actions. So you can either Move and do another action, or just do one Double Move. Note that you cannot do two Move actions in a row. celine bags Both of these actions work in roughly the same way. In a Move action a unit can move up to its Speed Stat in inches and in a Double Move, they can move twice this distance. You can move in a direct straight line, or stop and change direction at any point in your movement to negotiate terrain. You measure the movement from the miniatures’ bases (or the miniature itself, if it is a vehicle) and once you have finished moving a unit, they must still be in coherency (within 1″ of another model from their unit in Firefight or within 2″ of another [...]

TerrainCrate Kickstarter – check the progress so far!

We’re into the second week of the TerrainCrate Kickstarter and things are progressing very nicely indeed. Since we launched last Wednesday we’ve raised almost $300,000 and smashed through more than 20 stretch goals. But, just in case you haven’t been keeping track here’s a quick run down of everything that’s happened. STRETCH GOALS celine bags   After kicking things off with the awesome wizard’s owl, we’ve been downing the stretch goals faster than a thirsty dwarf in a tavern. So far we’ve unlocked 26 new pieces, from a wizard’s desk to some crystals for an abandoned mine. canada goose The latest stretch goal is a special $300,ooo bonanza to add a trio of pieces to the Guard’s Barracks. Hopefully, we’ll be crossing that one off tomorrow… OPTIONAL EXTRAS canada goose As the campaign progresses, we’re releasing sets as Optional Extras. This means that if you want a huge Abandoned Mine with metres of track, you can add them to your pledge for an extra $20 each. However, if you just want a particular set, then you can choose to ‘pledge with no reward’, add the amount required and then you’ll be able to select the Optional Extra you want in [...]

Guide to Warpath: Units and Activation

With Warpath and Firefight hitting stores last week, we thought it would be a great time to take a look through the mechanics of the game  – so people can learn to play using their new armies – or Deadzone forces scaled up. Today, we’ll be going through the basics of Warpath and Firefight – how units work on the tabletop and how you can use them in battle which will set the groundwork for looking at other mechanics in future articles. In both Warpath and Firefight, your forces will be made up of units. Units are comprised of miniatures, either Infantry, Large Infantry, Massive Infantry or Vehicles. You build your units before the game, with each one being limited to a certain size with a certain number of upgrades. A Team of Asterian Marionettes from Warpath In Firefight a unit is composed of individual miniatures, each one tracking things like damage, line of sight and weaponry individually. In Warpath, units are made up of teams, where multiple miniatures are formed up into one team, that is treated as a single entity on the tabletop which attacks and takes damage as one. Warpath’s system allows for larger forces to be [...]

TerrainCrate – 24 hours until launch!

With 24 hours to go until the launch of TerrainCrate (6pm BST/1pm EST April 26th), we’re letting Ronnie loose on the blog to explain why we’re doing this slightly off the wall Kickstarter… Sometimes I do things that are a little, well, offbeat? A little different, not what’s expected. Occasionally this confuses and causes problems, other times it later turned out to be a great idea. You have to be brave to run with these. The safer plan is to play it safe – but then that has never been Mantic’s style, now has it? 😉 celine bags readme So, I think we are back in one of those – might be genius, could be madness moments. It’s always a bit tough to tell before! However, stick with me and then you can all pass comment. I guess one of the reasons I got into gaming with miniatures was because the aesthetic is important to me. One of the best moments of the game is when you get down to eye level and look over the shoulders of your painted army, across the terrain and see the horde arrayed before you. Previously we have indulged a few of my passions [...]
