As we reported late last week, the Legions of Terror are on the move (some of you have even managed to add a lick of paint already) and the release date for the Abyssal Dwarfs, the 25th February, comes ever near. But who are the Abyssal Dwarfs and what drives their acts of evil?
Well, handily, Mr Cavatore has provided us with some awesome background on this fantastic new miniatures range – here’s a taster!
All Dwarfs love gold and jewels. Normally, however, the Dwarfs are governed by a strong moral code, dictating that the only riches that one truly owns are those that have been earned with hard, honest toil – “With the sweat of the brow and the callus on the hand holding the pick” goes an ancient Dwarven adage.
But Alas! The Father of Lies, great among the Lords of the Abyss, has spied a weakness in the heart of the Dwarfs, a flaw that they are well aware of and don’t like to talk about. It is greed, unbound and excessive greed, that desire of owning more gold that one can dig out of the earth with one’s own hands. Above all, it’s the perverse longing for gold that has been earned by the hard work of others. Seduced by the alluring promises of the Father of Lies, some Dwarfs will begin coveting and finally taking the wealth of others employing guile, threats or even violence. In the end, when a Dwarf takes another Dwarf’s life to satisfy this ultimate greed, there is much rejoicing in the Abyss, as another Dwarf has lost his soul forever – another Abyssal Dwarf is born.
Of course, this is just the start, and we’ve also posted details on the Black Souls and the Immortal Guard to wet your appetites. You can check out Tales from the Abyss section here.
Look out for more coming soon, and check back to the blog tomorrow where we start our feature on Dwarf King’s Hold!
