Today, we’re going to conclude our look into the cast of Assassin’s Creed Animus – which rounds off with Revolutionary France and Victorian London! Let’s see just who you’ll be playing as – plus tips and tricks to get the best out of them.

Arno – Collector’s Edition Only

Arno Dorian was a skilled Assassin during the French Revolution in the late 18th century. Born in Versailles, he joined the Assassin Brotherhood after the murder of his adoptive father, seeking justice and redemption. Skilled in stealth and combat, Arno unraveled conspiracies involving the Templar Order while navigating the political upheaval of the Revolution. His journey was marked by personal growth and a complex relationship with Élise, a Templar. Arno’s story reflects resilience, loyalty, and his enduring pursuit of liberty and justice during one of history’s most transformative periods.

The French Revolution: From the luxury of Versailles to turbulent Paris, and the darkness of the frightening Catacombs, Arno’s journey is filled with variety and intrigue. You’ll learn to make efficient use of the Café Théâtre, Streets and Shops as you navigate a vast city on the very brink of revolt.

Revolution Cards: Throughout play you will have the opportunity to place special Revolution cards. These work the same as memory blocks with one specific difference – they are not removed when a target is assassinated in the same location! This means you can put down a Revolution card to help eliminate a target, and continue using it for the rest of the game!

Delve: Entering the Catacombs is a dangerous business, but the Delve space immediately before it can make or break your game. This space is best used when there is a particularly hard target in the Catacombs.

Jacob & Evie Frye – Collector’s Edition Only

Evie Frye was a British Assassin known for her intelligence, discipline, and mastery of stealth. Born in 1847, she operated in London during the Industrial Revolution alongside her twin brother Jacob. While Jacob favored bold action, Evie focused on uncovering the secrets of the Pieces of Eden and upholding the values of the Brotherhood. Jacob Frye was a brash British Assassin who operated in London during the Industrial Revolution. Jacob’s streetwise charm and combat prowess made him formidable as leader of the Rooks, a gang formed to challenge the Templars’ grip over London’s working class.

Victorian London: Your adventure will take place amid the gas-lit foggy streets of 19th Century London. Prepare to stalk the streets of Westminster, Whitechapel and the central City of London. Along the way, you’ll make use of docks, bridges and alleyways as you close in on your targets.

Double Assassins: During set up, place both Jacob and Evie Frye onto your Player Board, and control both throughout the game. When moving an Assassin, you control which one to move. Your Assassins may not share the same space (except the Animus space).

Travel Cards: You have far fewer combo spaces on your board than other Assassins, but you can make up for this with unique Travel cards. These cards allow you to take combo turns with Jacob and Evie, but they require you to be flexible and comfortable with chaos.

Today, we’re going to continue our look into the cast of Assassin’s Creed: Animus – The Board Game. This time our journey starts in Renaissance Italy and then moves forward to the American Revolution. Let’s see just who you’ll be playing as, depending on the edition you choose – plus tips and tricks to get the best out of them.

Ezio (Assassin’s Creed II) – All Editions

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is an Italian Assassin who operated during the Renaissance, a time of cultural and intellectual rebirth spanning the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Born in 1459 in Florence, Ezio initially lived a carefree life as a nobleman’s son. However, tragedy thrust him into the world of the Assassins, where he sought justice and purpose. Ezio’s charisma, resourcefulness, and adaptability made him a beloved leader and a symbol of the Brotherhood’s ideals. His journeys took him across Italy, including Venice, Florence, and Rome, where he faced powerful adversaries and uncovered ancient secrets.

Renaissance Italy: long-time Assassin’s Creed fans will know these locations like the back of their hand. Florence. Venice. Rome. You’ll navigate bureaus,streets and canals, not forgetting to stop by the villa, all to help prepare you for your next dramatic clash with the Templar order.

Da Vinci’s Inventions: Ezio can place powerful memory blocks onto their player board called Inventions. If a target looks difficult, consider visiting Da Vinci to make the assassination easier.

Distractions & Carnival Mask: Two cards in Ezio’s draw deck have a hidden use: the distraction card and the carnival mask. Consider holding onto these as they can be used to bypass the challenges on Uberto Alberti and Marco Barbarigo.

Naoe & Yasuke (Assassin’s Creed Shadows) – Collector’s Edition Only

Naoe is a skilled shinobi from Iga Province who lived during Japan’s late Sengoku period. The daughter of legendary shinobi master Fujibayashi Nagato, she was raised in the traditions of ninjutsu and trained in stealth, agility, and assassination from a young age. Yasuke was a legendary African samurai who served under Oda Nobunaga during Japan’s turbulent late Sengoku period. Brought to Japan in the 16th century, his strength, loyalty, and presence earned him a place within Nobunaga’s inner circle

Feudal Japan: On this board you’ll travel between the major locations of Yamashiro, Wakasa and Tamba while also making use of Temples and other familiar locations to prepare for your assassination attempt.

Double Assassins: During set up, place both Naoe and Yasuke onto your Player Board, and control both throughout the game. When moving an Assassin, you may choose which one to move. Your Assassins may not share the same space.

Seasons: Your Season cards can be used to give your Assassins more combo turns throughout the game. Note that the deck is always in the same order, so you can predict what the next season will be. Use this to your advantage to ensure you are always moving the right Assassin.

Edward (Assassin’s Creed Black Flag) – Collector’s Edition Only

Edward Kenway was a fearless pirate and skilled Assassin who lived during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century. His adventurous spirit and exceptional skills in navigation and combat earned him a reputation among legendary pirates. Overtime, his encounters with the Assassin Brotherhood reshaped his priorities, leading him to a deeper understanding of freedom and responsibility.

The Golden Age of Piracy: avast, ye scurvy dogs! Welcome to the Caribbean, where you’ll be hunting Templars in Nassau, Havana and Kingston. From the open sea to docks, and a range of useful locations on the outskirts of each city, you’ll need to become a master of getting around both on land and water to truly master the Golden Age of Piracy.

Weather: Keep one eye on your Weather deck, as it confers powerful bonuses:

• Fog – gives you a reward for completing stealth challenges
• Dark of Night – remove desync tokens more easily
• Clear Skies – helps you find targets
• Thunder – boosts your fight value

The Jackdaw: Paths that travel between locations (left and right) have a ship symbol. These paths can be travelled in either direction, but only if you have your ship equipped.

Adéwalé: You may also choose to play as Adéwalé (from both Black Flag and its Freedom Cry DLC) on this board, who brings the Port-au-Prince location, the Experto Crede ship, and three alternate reaction cards into play.

Connor (Assassin’s Creed III) – All Editions

Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, is an Assassin of Mohawk and British descent who lived during the American Revolution in the 18th century. Born in1756 in a Kanien’kehà:ka village, Connor grew up amidst conflict and tension between colonial powers and Indigenous communities. He joined the Brotherhood to fight for freedom and justice, both for his people and for the broader colonies. Connor’s strength, perseverance, and unwavering sense of morality made him a vital figure in the struggle for liberation. His story reflects the complex dynamics of revolution and identity during a pivotal era in history.

The American Revolution: Connor’s tale takes place over a span of time, leading to its dramatic conclusion in 1783. You’ll venture between major cities like Boston and New York while also making clever use of the resources and advantages of the wild frontier.

Homesteading: Connor has a unique location called the Homestead. This location will never have targets in it, but can be upgraded by taking the Homesteading action. If built up, the Homestead can be a useful location to visit between assassinations.

Desync Tokens: More so than other Assassins, Connor can handle a few desync tokens. If you end up with a high value desync token, consider moving to the On the Hunt space to give it to another player.

Aveline (Collector’s Edition Only): You may also choose to play as Aveline from Assassin’s Creed Liberation on this board, who brings the Bayou and New Orleans locations into play, plus four alternate reaction cards.

Today, let’s dive into the incredible ‘cast’ of Assassin’s Creed: Animus – The Board Game.

See just who you’ll be playing as, depending on the edition you choose – plus tips and tricks to get the best out of them. And for a bit of added fun, we’re going to progress through them in chronological order from the most ancient origins of the series’ central power struggle, through to the most modern setting. Let’s go!

General Tips

Finding Your Targets: The only way to win is by assassination, so always keep an eye on where your next target is hiding. If you don’t have any targets on your player board you should be looking to move to a space that will either (i) allow you to uncover them from the memory deck or (ii) a viewpoint to snatch a previously missed opportunity out of the memory discard. Once they’re in play you can start to gear up and make a plan.

Taking Risks: Most desync tokens will only lose you a few points, so while you’re certainly aiming for precision/style/synchronisation, you don’t need to be perfect. It’s almost always worth taking a couple of tokens to score an assassination target rather than fail the attempt, so be aggressive and keep taking bold actions towards your goal.

Kassandra (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey) – Collector’s Edition Only

Kassandra, renowned as the Eagle Bearer, was a Spartan mercenary in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War. A descendant of King Leonidas, Kassandra wields the legendary Spear of Leonidas, carving her own path through war-torn Greece, uncovering ancient secrets, and battling the Cult of Kosmos. Cunning, strong-willed, and unstoppable, she was a fierce warrior on a quest to find the truth about her family.

Classical Greece: The Peloponnesian War is raging. Your odyssey will take you from Athens to Sparta and Olympia, making use of Docks and Temples scattered throughout Ancient Greece. You’ll be hunting the Cult of Kosmos, and they’re not the only threats roaming the land…

Mythic Beasts: You have the ability to find and hunt Mythic Beasts. These are a good source of extra points that do not hasten the end of the game. Be careful with having too many beasts out, as they can make some of your targets harder to assassinate.

Deimos: Deimos is available at the start of the game, but is worth more as your last target. With that in mind, other players are likely to put memory blocks in your way. Carefully decide whether it is worth hunting them early for a lesser reward.

Alexios: you may instead choose to play as Alexios on this board, who brings an alternate Deimos card and four alternate reaction cards into play for a different experience.

Bayek (Assassin’s Creed Origins) – Collector’s Edition Only

Bayek of Siwa was a fearless Medjay and the co-founder of the Hidden Ones (which later became the Assassins), alongside his wife Aya. He dedicated his life to protecting the security and welfare of the Egyptian people, but tragedy turned his mission into a personal crusade against tyranny. A relentless warrior and devoted protector, his story is one of duty, sacrifice, and the birth of a brotherhood dedicated to freedom.

Ptolemaic Egypt: Bayek will travel across the Valley of Kings, Giza and Sinai in pursuit of The Order of the Ancients. Be guided by your dreams, and travel up and down the Nile to keep your possibilities open…until the right target and opportunity reveals itself.

Senu: Bayek can make use of Senu, his eagle, to scout out locations and set up future assassinations. These cards are powerful, but combined with your player board, can telegraph where you are heading to other players…

First Assassin: As one of the founders of the Hidden Ones, Bayek’s actions have more of an effect on other players. The Monument space is a good example of this, allowing Bayek to draw a large number of Assassin cards if other players are also in need of them.

Eivor (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla) – All Editions

Eivor Varinsdottir is a fierce Viking raider who lived during the late 9th century, a time marked by Norse expansion and the shaping of medieval England. Raised by Jarl Styrbjorn of the Raven Clan, she grew into a bold and determined warrior with an unbreakable spirit. On reaching adulthood Eivor led her people across the North Sea to England, seeking to establish a new home. Her journey brought her into contact with the Hidden Ones and the growing conflict between Assassins and Templars.

Viking Age England: You’re stepping into the boots of a hardened Viking explorer. Your adventures will take you from Norway to Suthsexe (Sussex) and East Anglia, and along the way you’ll need to make cunning use of longboats, stables, blacksmiths, inns and markets to spring your assassination attempts.

Raiding and Conquest: Eivor can complete raids in their three major locations (Suthsexe, Norway, and East Anglia) to gain powerful Conquest actions (activated on the Command space). Gaining a powerful conquest action early in the game can put you in a strong position going forward.

Hit Hard: Eivor has a pretty impressive suite of weapons and skills, allowing her to deal with fight challenges easier than a lot of other Assassins. This, combined with easy access to targets (through Odin’s Sight) means you have all the tools you need to hit hard and go home.

Male Eivor (Collector’s Edition Only): though Eivor Varinsdottir is canonically female, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla also allows you to play the game as a male character – so the Collector’s Edition includes an alternate character miniature, giving you the same choice on tabletop!

Altaïr (Assassin’s Creed) – All Editions

Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad is one of the most renowned Assassins in the history of the Brotherhood. Born in1165 in the Holy Land, he lived during the time of the Third Crusade. Altaïr was raised in the Brotherhood from a young age, quickly rising through its ranks thanks to his exceptional skills, intellect, and determination. Despite his talents, his early arrogance and impulsiveness often clashed with the order’s principles. Through a pivotal mission, Altaïr’s journey became one of self-discovery and redemption, leading him to become a legendary Assassin.

The Third Crusade: Rival powers vie for control of the Holy Land. Venturing out from Masyaf, your travels will take you from Damascus to Acre and Jerusalem, as you make cunning use of bureaus and viewpoints to uncover Templar targets and conspiracies across these incredible cities.

Upgrades: Altaïr has unique cards called Upgrades which can be added to your draw deck. These cards are better than your starting cards, so focus on getting a couple early on in the game to give yourself an edge.

Resetting Your Deck: With Altaïr’s upgrades and improved Calibration space (most Assassins only draw 3 cards when calibrating), returning to the Animus is not as much of a setback for you than it is for other players. If you have a few Upgrade cards in your discard, consider resyncing to reset your deck.
