Community Round-up: April 29th

29th Apr 2020

Rob Burman

Unsurprisingly, there have been loads more pictures to flood social media over the last week. While we doubt anyone has run out of models to paint, it appears those plastic and metal mountains are shrinking. Perhaps more of a hill, than a mountain now.

Let’s take a look at what we found across the internet this week! Of course, if you’d like to see your hobby project featured, make sure you tag us on social media so we don’t miss your pictures. Anyway, off we go…

No better feeling than seeing your army complete and all laid out, and Craig McCartney has done a beautiful job on his Forces of the Abyss. Colour scheme, basing and clean paint jobs makes this a stand out update from the past week.

He has also included characters from Dungeon Saga and Vanguard in his army.

We absolutely loved this spectacular Mignola-style paint job from Neil Amswych. It’s a striking project and we’ll have more from Neil, giving you some tips on how YOU can recreate the comics in Hellboy: The Board Game.

Talking of comics, we absolutely loved these Walking Dead: All Out War minis from Tobias Nettekoven. The finish on Rick is particularly awesome.

Another one of our absolute favourites from the past week was this stunning Plague Aberration by Reldan Aln. Absolutely jaw-dropping.

Oh, and as a bonus treat, here are Reldan’s Forge Fathers too. Amazeballs.

Hellfanes have been popping up all over the place and they look fantastic. Branko Paseta’s is no different. Great use of object source lighting on the weapons, exhaust and eyes of the beast help to illuminate the cooler tone of the model.

Talking of Abyssal Dwarfs, Andy ‘Mr. Orange’ Ransome has been busy with his Grotesques.

Last week we saw a beautiful GCPS Hornet, this week we have a disgustingly brilliant Plague Hornet completed by Andrew Sharp. Excellent rust effect and barbaric blades really make this a stand out piece.

Hendrik van den Berkmortel has taken to the skies with his Orc Krudger on Winged Slasher. This is a great resin kit and this paint job is top notch. We’ve seen a lot of work-in-progress orc armies at the moment. Are they the new hotness?

Horde of Zombies clambering over some ruins was completed by Robin Poulton. We chose this one because it shows what’s possible with a diorama base, thanks to multi-basing.

Rounding out this week’s showcase we have this Giant completed by Pete Barfield. So many little trinkets and additions to paint on this kit, always awesome to see one painted.

MANTIC STAFF PROJECTS

Once again, it’s not just the community that’s busy getting some extra hobby time in. The Mantic staff have been chipping away at their own projects too.

Over in America, Joe Neet is completing a Mantic-only Kingdoms of Men army using Basileans… and they look superb!

Meanwhile, back in Blighty and Martin is finishing off the big dudes for his Abyssal Dwarf army. Can’t wait to see the finished project.

Rob has nearly finished his Fleabag Rider regiment using a mix of the existing Fleabag Rider models and some heads/arms from the upcoming hard plastic goblins. Even though he should really be doing his Forces of the Abyss army ready for Ronnie’s big battle.

Finally, Kirsten (resin caster extraordinaire) has been making some sweet, sweet Deadzone terrain.

Another great week of painted Mantic models. Remember to post your pictures across social media and you too might be featured here.

If this didn’t itch that painted model scratch, be sure to check out Death by Dragons on YouTube. The delightful and wonderfully entertaining Steve Hildrew from Counter Charge fame rounds-up plenty of Kings of War activity in his weekly community update.
