Community Round-up: May 7th

7th May 2020

Rob Burman

Hello! We’re back with another carefully curated hobby round-up. As usual, it’s dedicated to Steve Hildrew, the inventor of the concept of a community round-up. Which had never even been thought about until he launched his weekly Kings of War video round-up.

Moving into our third week of community updates, it’s amazing to see how much hobby progress is being made throughout the world. The community has really come together during the outbreak and it’s been inspiring to watch. No, we’re not crying. You’re crying. Anyway, enough rambling, let’s move on.

Andy Ransome has done it again with this beautiful rendition of the new Abyssal Dwarf Hellfane. The striking contrast between the obsidian beast and deep gold howdah is splendid.

Billy Smith (aka Billy Capgun) has started a new project. This test model for his new Orc army really has us excited. Billy sure is a mad man for the detail work that he has done on these shields. Say a prayer for him as he completes his lovely horde!

Speaking of detail, the man himself Daniel Read is back at it again. This time with the beginnings of his Dwarf Sharpshooters! Daniel never disappoints and this is no exception… look at the tally behind that shield. Just stop it is not even fair…

Jon Becker’s Chroneas is really hot… no, literally. It is made out of fire. He has done a wonderful job to bring this molten behemoth to life.

Mike Miller’s Trident Realm Wyrmriders are stunning. The basing is particularly great, as it looks as though they have just landed on the beach in search of their next victims.

Ron Krokovich’s Zombie horde is very cinematic with the mausoleum on the base. Great work!

The Ogre Warlock is a stunning model and this version by Tim Erlandson keeps with that trend.

Moving away from the world of Pannithor we have some great updates from the far reaches of the universe.

Mark Wheeler’s growing Enforcer army for Firefight is a real sight for the eyes. Backed up with beautifully painted terrain, this is what we love to see!

Jed Shields is not to be outdone though, and this striking color scheme really caught out eye. Enforcer Strike Team is ready to cleanse the vile forces of the Plague.

If you have never driven a monocycle then you have not lived. Julien Criton has not only painted one, but has a Sphyr riding it! Beautifully done!

Talking of Deadzone, Andy Burdis of Blackjack Legacy fame has started another of his hugely popular hobby challenges. This time he’s challenging people to paint up a 150pt strike team in May. You can join in with the fun here: https://www.facebook.com/events/255334299005503/

MANTIC STAFF UPDATES

Bit of a quiet week from the Mantic staff, to be honest. It’s almost like they’ve been working too hard.

However, Rob is excited because he’s got the go-ahead to use goblins in Ronnie’s big post lockdown Kings of War battle. So that means he’ll have to paint even more goblins. Don’t feel sorry for him, he loves it.
