Deadzone Global Campaign: Week Two Recap

30th May 2022

Rob Burman

We’re entering week three of the Deadzone Global Campaign and things are getting tense! Factions that had been written off are making surprise comebacks, while others are clinging on to previous victories. Today we’re giving you a quick recap of the past week, alongside revealing a new district to host your battles: the port district.

WEEK TWO RECAP

At the start of the week, the Enforcers were in outright control of Magnetar. Clearly the Council of Seven had sent out their bully boys and girls in decent numbers to control the Veer-myn outbreak. Meanwhile, the Asterians were quietly making their presence known. Rumours that Magnetar hides a chilling secret had clearly spurred the Asterians into action to ensure the galactic scales don’t tip the wrong way.

Elsewhere a hidden Rebel cell on Magnetar, saw its opportunity to strike against the forces of the Council and were gathering intel for their Rebcast updates.

Skip forward to today, however, and it’s a different story. The Veer-myn hordes have poured forth from the sewers beneath Magnetar and have overwhelmed the gathered forces to take overall control of Magnetar (albeit by the narrowest of margins). The GCPS have staged a brave comeback against the insidious insurgents, but will it be enough?

ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT

The outbreak started in the Entertainment District, so it makes sense that this is where the Enforcers would concentrate their initial efforts. As a result, it should come as no surprise to see that they’ve maintained control of the Entertainment District. However, their supremacy hangs on a knife edge, with the Rebs seemingly holding their own against the Council’s finest. The narrow streets and seedy alleyways of Magnetar clearly suit the guerilla tactics of the Rebs. A victory for them would be a major bonus for their anti-corp propaganda.

RESEARCH DISTRICT

Over in the Research District, it’s a very different story. Perhaps sensing the formidable numbers of Enforcers, the Veer-myn have switched their efforts to concentrate on the shady Mazon Research Facilities. This sprawling mass of laboratories, testing centres and chemical stores, has clearly caught the attention of the Veer-myn. However, it appears that most of the Mazon Labs workers have left the site, due to their overall lack of involvement. The Enforcers and GCPS have moved into the area… but can they stop the Veer-myn?

NEW AREA: PORT DISTRICT

Nameless

The arrival of the Nameless into the Magnetar conflict is surprising, but perhaps inevitable. ETCU scientists had reported no Nameless activity in the sector and there was nothing to indicate they were wrong. Yes, there had been reports of port workers going missing for several months before Containment Protocols came into effect and yes, some pleasure cruisers had sunk in mysterious circumstances. But drunk, rich people were always sinking ships off the shores of Magnetar.

However, when the Nameless made their presence known, the Port District quickly became one of the most dangerous regions of Magnetar. Perhaps keen to perfect the aquaforming technology the Nameless use to take over unwitting planets, the weather in the sprawling port district has become unpredictable, as the thrum of high-powered machinery can be heard below the waves surrounding the area. Now only the bravest enter the port, as they fight to discover the secrets of the Nameless’ ancient technology, or want to raid the cargo ships that have been left standing since fighting broke out.

That’s right folks, the Nameless must have been biding their time hiding away in the murky waters surrounding Magnetar City. Now, as the various Strike Teams push further away from the heart of Magnetar, they’re discovering new areas full of threats.

The Port is so dangerous due to the weather-changing technology employed by the Nameless. Keen to make the locations they invade as hospitable as possible for the semi-aquatic species, they have been known to attempt to aquaform entire planets… with mixed results. Now the ominous clouds circling in the skies above Magnetar show that something isn’t quite right with the Nameless’ latest effort and the weather has become just as dangerous as the monsters lurking beneath the surface.

As a result, we’ve created special weather rules to add to your games of Deadzone. Depending on the roll of a dice, you could encounter thick fog, hazardous electrical storms or torrential rain. Each of these will affect the way your Strike Team performs. Will the Nameless prove successful in these unpredictable conditions? Only time will tell!
