Halo: Flashpoint Tactics – Spartan Killers

Today we hand over to the Halo: Flashpoint Rules Committee and dive into the three new legendary characters for The Banished, collectively known as the Hand of Atriox.
These lethal fighters form the most elite core of Atriox's lieutenants: gifted Spartan Killers hand-chosen by Escharum for their ferocity, guile, or pure killer instincts.
Over to Dylan from the Rules Committee now for a breakdown, character by character. Let's talk tactics and get into the details.
Jega 'Rdomnai
Jega is the first Sangheili Legend in Flashpoint, bringing extreme lethality and speed to Banished Fireteams. With Tactician, a 3+ Fight stat, and Lethal (2) on Bloodblade and Ghostpierce, Jega is a monster to fight and a threat your opponent can’t ignore.
Jega benefits from the keyword Active Camouflage, meaning he is permanently a tricky target to shoot. Coupled with Evade, this means that Jega is very manoeuvrable and capable of surprising speed - perfect for getting into combat! The keyword Spartan Killer represents Jega’s infamous membership in the Hand of Atriox, a specialist unit dedicated to hunting down UNSC Spartans. In Halo: Flashpoint, this means Jega scores an additional Victory Point for killing enemy Spartans, similar to Acrobatic.
Items such as Grappleshots and Thrusters work best for Jega, letting him get into combat sooner to make quick work of his targets. A cheap ranged weapon can work well for turns where combat isn’t necessary; both the Disruptor and Magnum are useful for Rapid Fire to set up for the rest of your team and to disrupt your opponent’s turn.
Hyperius & Tovarus
Hyperius and Tovarus, two Jiralhanae Spartan Killers, both boast high HP and flexible statlines. The pair have the Spartan Killer keyword, meaning they are very effective assassins that will worry most UNSC Fireteams!
Hyperius is armed with both an S7 Sniper Rifle and a Ravager, providing long-range cover and also lethal close combat. This means that Hyperius is incredibly flexible and fits into any Banished fireteam easily.
His Ravager is slightly different to the existing profile, losing the Long restriction but also being limited to the Implosion firing mode. Tactician combined with his durability makes him a useful force multiplier - similar to the MKVII Spartan, Hyperius is a capable fighter individually and equally important for your wider team.
Meanwhile, Tovarus starts with his Scrap Cannon, an incredibly useful weapon for displacement and pinning. It has two firing modes, each with different roles and both benefitting from the Firing Platform keyword.
The long-range mode has the much-coveted keyword of Suppression, making it invaluable in scenarios like Oddball and for throwing a spanner in the works for your opponent.
Meanwhile, the shorter-range mode has Weight of Fire and Knockback, making it stronger for missions such as Extraction, King of the Hill, and for other modes where displacement is necessary. His Scrap Cannon doubles up as a combat weapon, with Lethal (1) and Smash (1), so there’s plenty of ways to annihilate your opponent’s Fireteam.
Both Hyperius and Tovarus can also be used in the Jiralhanae Hunting Pack Detachment, where they can benefit from the extra abilities there.
Aerial Deployment is particularly useful for these two, for a devastatingly precise onslaught from either the S7 Sniper Rifle on Hyperius or the Scrap Cannon from Tovarus. Items such as Health Packs and Explosive Ammo are perfect for boosting the defensive and also offensive power of both.
Accompanying these three Spartan Killers is the Hand of Atriox Special Order, an order that revolves around marking an enemy target to eliminate. This provides up to two re-rolls for Fight or Ranged tests vs the target, but if that enemy model is still alive by the end of your activation you will lose a VP - a deadly price to pay for failure.
This order helps a lot in missions like VIP, Slayer, or Siege where you are likely wanting to eliminate a specific model anyway, just be careful not to be over-confident in picking your mark! Hyperius, Tovarus, and Jega can also use Banished orders such as Alliance, or Rampage in the case of Hyperius and Tovarus.
We're all very excited to see these hit the tables, and think every Banished player will love them (we certainly have throughout testing!) and seeing them come to life as incredibly detailed MasterCraft Resin models.
