Epic Warpath: Staff Update #1

Epic Warpath is reaching fever pitch in Mantic HQ.

Our staff painting challenge for Epic Warpath is well underway — and the brushes have been busy! From the brooding depths of the Veer-Myn tunnels to the disciplined ranks of the Enforcers, our team has been pushing their painting skills and tabletop ambitions to new heights.

In this update, we’re showcasing progress from five of our hobby heroes: Tobias, Duncan, Elliott, Dave, and Stuart. Each has been tackling their own faction with distinctive flair — and plenty of enthusiasm.

Tobias: Forge Fathers

Tobias has taken the sturdy, stoic Forge Fathers under his wing — and the results are pure craftsmanship. His none standard colour scheme of sandy brown and green accents tells a story of centuries-long warfare.

“I wanted them to look ancient but functional — like they adapted to a desert world.”

His attention to detail is remarkable — and is currently the only painted who has managed to get not one, but two super heavies built and painted.

If you’re planning your own Forge Fathers painting project, Tobias’ army shows what can be done with just a few custom colours.

Duncan: Veer-Myn

Where Tobias’ Forge Fathers are deliberate and disciplined, Duncan’s Veer-Myn is the start of a chaotic swarm, and full of personality. His colour palette leans heavily on sickly greens, grimy browns, and subdued yellows — perfectly capturing the toxic, subterranean menace of the rat-like hordes.

“I wanted them to look like they’d been crawling through industrial waste and radioactive tunnels,” Duncan explains. “So I went with neutral browns and a more subdued yellow theme.”

The result? A swarm that looks ready to erupt from the sewers of the galaxy and overrun anything in their path.

Duncan’s approach shows how basing and texture can make or break a miniature army — a perfect lesson for painters aiming to add realism to their alien factions.

Elliott: Veer-Myn

If Duncan’s Veer-Myn are dirty and dangerous, Elliott’s are legion. He’s painted not just a few squads, but an entire Veer-Myn horde — and then kept going.

His focus is on efficiency and consistency: “When you’ve got this many miniatures, the key is discipline. I batch-painted everything on the sprue using Army Painter Speed Paints, then glued them to their bases after.”

Elliott’s Veer-Myn army proves that speed painting doesn’t mean cutting corners. His palette is crisp and clear, with sharp details on weapons and subtle skin tones that stand out even at Epic scale.

Whether you’re a beginner painter or a veteran tackling mass infantry, Elliott’s workflow is pure gold for productivity without sacrificing quality.

Dave: Marauders

Dave’s Marauders bring raw, brutal energy to the table. These green-skinned mercenaries are full of character, with rough metal tones, and a splash of blue to give each squad individuality.

“I wanted my Marauders to look like they’ve seen a hundred battles — and probably started most of them,” Dave laughs.

If you’re painting Marauders for Epic Warpath, Dave’s Marauders are a fantastic study in layer painting, bold base colours with gritty realism — the perfect mix of comic-book fun and battlefield chaos.

Stuart: Enforcers and Plague

And finally, we have Stuart — the undisputed champion of this round. While the rest of us were struggling to finish a few squads, Stuart quietly completed not one, but two full armies: Enforcers and Plague to use in demonstration games around the world.

His Enforcers are sleek and uniform — a gleaming army of blue-gray armour plates accented with crisp red and blue. They look every bit the elite strike force they’re meant to be.

Then there’s his Plague army, which couldn’t be more different: sickly flesh tones, grotesque mutations, and a military green for those still in GCCPS uniform.

“I wanted the Enforcers to look clinical and controlled,” Stuart says, “and the Plague to be everything they’re not — chaotic, diseased, and unpredictable. These models are a joy to paint.”

By using the same base colour and texture, the result is two opposing forces that look like they belong on the same battlefield, locked in eternal conflict.

If you needed motivation to pick up your brush again — Stuart just gave you a double dose.
