Hi everyone, Dan here with a very short guide on how to update your existing copy of Halo: Flashpoint to the latest 1.5 ruleset - which makes the best sci-fi skirmish game in the galaxy even better.

If you're a brand new player, then welcome! Especially for you, the Spartan Edition Starter Set is now fully 1.5-updated and ready to go - it's a great place to dive in at the best possible time. Our September delivery of these (and the largest starter set print run since launch!) sold out before we could even dispatch them, so don't miss out reserving one from the next delivery arriving in November 2026. Just click HERE.

What is it? The 1.5 ruleset is simultaneously (i) a consolidation of essential content into the core rulebook, along with (ii) a balance pass to make your games fairer and more enjoyable.

New sets, and indeed individual cards, containing updated content are conveniently marked with the below logo:

This means that there's a simple 'golden rule': if you should ever muddle things up and find you have duplicates, then the component with the v1.5 logo is the correct one.

1) How to Update The Game Rules

This bit is incredibly easy - just remove the old rulebook from your Spartan or Recon Edition starter set, and pop the new one in!

game rulebook pack terrain and tokens

As a reminder of what's changed: the new version incorporates any updates arising from rules FAQs and errata since launch, collects together all the keywords in the game so far from all the expansions (and some new ones you'll use in the future!), and brings the War Games fireteam building rules into the main book - so you have all the game's core information in one place.

If you've not ordered yours already, the new rulebook can be found right HERE .

Note: it comes in a pack with extra tokens - designed for new players but also super-useful spares if yours are looking a little battle-worn, plus the UNSC training area tower. You won't have this yet if you started with the Recon Edition, and if you had Spartan Edition from the outset then now you can balance up your battlefield. It's a win-win-win!

2) How to Update Your Unit Cards

Before you start, gather all your existing cards together - then we can get your card collection up to date in just a couple of minutes.

Special Order Cards

Step 1 - Add the 8 new Special Order cards to your card collection, removing duplicates. (In this case, the only card being directly replaced is 'ODST Special Order: Hot Drop'.)

Step 2 - You should also remove 'One Man Army', Master Chief's old special order - which has now been replaced by 'Finish the Fight'.

Unit Cards

Step 1 - Flip over your new Unit Cards and separate out the 8 cards without the 1.5 logo. These are cards that simply update the layout style from older Recon/Spartan starter set cards for graphical consistency across your card collection. Simply swap them with the old versions for those same units.

Step 2 - The 19 cards with the 1.5 logo then directly replace their original versions throughout your card collection. You can see the logo's placement in the image below.

Final Notes

That's it - you're done and ready to dive back into competitive, and better-than-ever, tabletop gaming in the Halo universe!

A last couple of points before you get stuck in:

  • If you've previously downloaded the Halo Flashpoint PDF rulebook - you now go to re-download it from 'My Downloads' on the Mantic Webstore. The 1.5 version should be there and all ready for you - nothing extra to pay.
  • And if you're a Halo: Flashpoint Index Web App free user or subscriber, everything already included in your respective user tier is now fully updated online to version 1.5, and you can find a complete summary of the changes HERE.
  • Got a Zeta Halo Releases bundle on the way this September? Many of these time-limited bundles contained a free 1.5 rulebook and set of cards, so make sure to check your delivery before you order an extra one!
  • If you run lists that use multiples of units, you might want more than one update deck - the deck contains one of everything that's been updated, which will be enough for most people. However, if you want duplicates then you can get extra decks HERE.

Enjoy!
