On the 1st Day of Xmas: 2023 in Review

Merry Christmas everyone!

As 2023 draws to a close it seems the right time for a series of blogs taking both a quick look back, and starting to share some of what 2024 has coming up…

Dungeon Saga Origins

The year kicked off with a bang in March when a whole crowd of folks backed our family-friendly Dungeon Saga Origins campaign. The special Legendary Edition was a fun-filled box of gaming goodness, with tonnes of gorgeous plastic minis, over 40 action-packed scenarios, and clean simple rules – all just waiting for backers to dive into a world of amazing adventures.

Just look at this – and this isn’t even everything that comes in the box!

Our international hubs shipped the game out to backers in English-speaking countries for late December (in time to hopefully get it under their Christmas trees), and we just missed getting the language packs in time for some of our international backers, but these will be shipping early in 2024. Now the ‘big box’ is out in the wild, we’ve heard plenty of other gamers saying they wish they’d backed the campaign!

So, good news! There’s still a chance to get the Dungeon Saga Origins Legendary Edition. We always print a few too many to hit print run volumes at the factory (plus some for spares/events etc), so you can place a pre-order HERE – which we’ll start shipping in early February by which time all the backers should have received theirs.

Even now we’re starting to believe that demand could exceed not only what we have, but probably even what’s gone out to retailers as well…wow! So, we’re already thinking about a reprint of this special edition in the future. The feedback and reviews we’ve received from so many of you have been wonderful to read, and really do make all the effort worthwhile!

The Umbrella Academy

In a year where we delivered on multiple earlier crowdfunding campaigns, we also brought The Umbrella Academy to you as a board game! This was a collaboration with our friends at River Horse, and is based on the super-popular comic book series.

There is also the rather fabulous Collector’s Edition of The Umbrella Academy available, which will be shipping in early February. Just like with Dungeon Saga Origins, this is from where we’ve had a few extras made on the Kickstarter print run – so make sure to snap them up while it’s still available! This special version contains the base game and several miniature and content expansions, all-in-one. It’s perfect for all of the comic and board game fans among you, and a must-have if you’ve enjoyed either reading or watching The Umbrella Academy. Enjoy!

But wait, there’s more…we really have been busy.

Terrain Crate

We continued our mission to bring sci-fi and fantasy wargames tables to life with the launch of a whole new Terrain Crate range – making both a huge selection of alien trees and ruins available in highly detailed, (nearly) indestructible, and multi-game-compatible plastic scenery pieces!

Gaming in Pannithor

Alongside Kings of War army updates and new hard plastic releases for Nightstalkers and the Northern Alliance, and of course the epic arrival of the Twilight Kin, we also kept the Armada releases coming on strongly. (You can read more about Kings of War in a future blog, including what’s coming in 2024!)

We saw the Seas of Dread book, sea monsters, fortifications, and more fleets including the Abyssal Dwarfs and Trident Realm (a favourite of mine). These weren’t just released in resin – oh no – as 2023 saw the launch of the very popular Mantic Vault service!

The Mantic Vault & The Mantic Companion

The Mantic Vault perfectly complements the Mantic Companion – meaning Armada is now available as a fully supported digital range – the rules, the ships and the cards can all be accessed and available to anyone who has a 3D printer, and space to set up a wargames table (or even just so they can paint all those fantastic boats – and other things)!

2024 will continue to bring more games, rules, and model ranges via these digital options, so do watch out for those.

Worms: The Board Game

And then there’s Worms: The Board Game, which is an absolute joy to play on the tabletop – and is currently going to the factory for tooling. We’ve had some samples/masters already, and they are absolutely full of charm and character. Watch out for this one in 2024!

Too Much To Mention!

There’s so much to talk about, and there’s some other major highlights that we’ll be covering in their own blogs (Firefight winning ‘miniatures game of the year’, a new Deadzone starter set, and loads more) –  so I am going to stop there!

2024 will continue to build on the all fantastic Mantic tournaments, crowdfunding, games, and events. We have some new faces joining the team, looking after our event presence and our online community (a big welcome to Tobias and Andy) and oh boy do we have some AMAZING releases planned for you.
