Who Are The Abyssal Dwarfs?

26th Jun 2023

Dan Mapleston

Hey everyone, Dan here!

It’s a big week for the Abyssal Dwarfs as they take to the seas of Pannithor! On Tuesday 27th June (yes – tomorrow!) we will reveal the whole fleet, all ready for your pre-orders.

If you like dwarfs, darkness, and destruction (or frankly any combination of the above) then you’re in for an absolute treat with these new ships!

Now, let’s recap just who you’ll be sailing with…

SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF TRAGAR

Tragar is the kingdom of the Abyssal Dwarfs. The twin temple-cities of Zarak and Deiw loom large at the western and eastern borders, and a third city is under construction. These towering sentinel-mountains are almost maddening in their scale, wrought of stone, iron, and brass. The cities are constantly expanding, building ever higher, and burrowing ever deeper until the warping power of the Abyss seeps through the rock into the deepest chambers.

CORRUPTED BY THE ABYSS

Many scholars believe that proximity to the Abyss means that Abyssal Dwarfs cannot be born naturally at all. Rather, their ranks are swelled by the corruption of renegade dwarfs migrating to Tragar from the Southern holds. Some believe that the Abyssal Dwarfs are so imbued by demonic magic that they are effectively immortal, cursed to face an eternity of treachery and wickedness.

UNSATED GREED

Each Abyssal Dwarf has a longing for wealth and power that is a yawning chasm in their very souls – a chasm that can never be filled. Their unrestrained avarice makes them more ostentatious that their unsullied dwarf-kin, adorning themselves in finery, elaborate armour, and jewels.

WITHOUT MERCY

The Abyssal Dwarfs capture and employ slaves for the tasks they are best suited for: dwarfs are excellent miners and smiths, elves make amusing playthings, humans can be put to work on the most gruelling tasks, and goblins are perfect house servants. Orcs, however, have one clear area where they excel above all others – war. Vast hordes of the brutes are pushed toward the enemy before the Abyssal Dwarfs commit their own troops.

THE FLEET ASSEMBLES

The Abyssal Dwarfs have their own hellish naval forces, belching fire and smoke as they patrol the Low Sea of Suan and their coastal holdings. But of late, the shipyards have grown, and the Iron Captains have doubled in number. Their sea power has become formidable – perhaps too formidable to be contained any longer…

We’ve shown off a few elements from these exciting new ships already, and will unveil the full fleet for pre-order tomorrow!
