Kings of War News Round-Up: Samarik, Horde Bundles, Slow Grow and an Errata Update

We’ve got a few quick Kings of War updates to share today, covering the upcoming Siege of Samarik participation campaign, new horde bundle options on the Mantic webstore, the final stage of our Slow Grow Challenge, and a small but important update to the official Errata and FAQ document.

The Siege of Samarik Begins This August

The Siege of Samarik participation campaign is coming soon!

The campaign will run from Friday 14th August to Sunday 30th August, taking place across three full weekends of gaming.

During the campaign, your games of Kings of War, Kings of War Champions and Armada will help decide the fate of the city of Samarik, with real consequences that will be written into the ongoing narrative and history of Pannithor.

We’ll have a special campaign website live for the event, where you’ll be able to upload the results of the games you play. More details on exactly how that will work are coming soon, so keep your eyes on the Mantic blog.

Basilea and the Abyss are at the heart of the story - but all armies can make their mark in the campaign!

We’ll also be releasing the Siege rules for Kings of War 4th Edition in beta form, giving players the chance to use them during the Siege of Samarik campaign.

Using the siege rules will be completely optional. Your games do not have to be siege games to count towards the campaign. However, if you do want to storm the walls, defend the gates or put the new rules through their paces, you’ll be able to do exactly that.

We’ll also have an online form available for feedback on the beta siege rules, so you can let us know how they feel on the tabletop.

For now, mark the dates in your calendar, rally your armies, and prepare for battle.

The Siege of Samarik begins on Friday 14th August.

Build Bigger Units for Samarik

Speaking of getting ready for Samarik, we’ve also added new Horde options for most Kings of War armies on the Mantic webstore.

These are handy mini-bundles that give you two regiment boxes of a core unit at a discounted price, making them a great way to build bigger units, reinforce your army, and get more models onto the battlefield quickly and affordably.

Of the many new Horde mini-bundles available, there are two that we're particularly excited about in light of the release of Kings of War: Fracture...

The Xirkaali Warriors Horde is ideal for anyone building the invading forces from the east, especially now that a Horde option for Xirkaali Warriors has been added in the new Fracture army list.

Meanwhile, Basilean players can now pick up the Order of the Abyssal Hunt Horde, a unique Knight horde unit introduced in the new Basilean army list. If our recent Basilea army focus tempted you to explore more Paladin and Knight-heavy builds, this is a great place to start.

The Siege of Samarik is coming...time to build BIG!!!

Slow Grow Challenge: A Slightly Extended Finale

If you’ve been participating in the Kings of War Slow Grow Challenge, or even just following along, you’ll know that today marks the end of Week 24 and the official end point of the challenge.

You may also have noticed that things have been a little quiet on the Slow Grow blog front recently. We’re sorry about that! This summer has been a very busy time here at Mantic HQ, and for very good reasons – there are lots of exciting things happening across the Mantic universe – but it does mean the Slow Grow blog had to take a back seat for a little while.

The good news is that we’ve still been working away on our armies. That said, we’re only human and, with the honourable exception of Tobias (who may actually be a machine!), none of us have quite finished our 2,000-point armies yet. So we’re cheating just a little....

We’re extending the Slow Grow Challenge for another three weeks, taking us right up to the start of the Siege of Samarik! After all, that was always the plan for the challenge: build towards the summer campaign, then march our armies into battle.

Come back in a few weeks to see if I've managed to grow my Trident Realm army any further!

Expect a final Team Mantic Slow Grow update around the start of the campaign, where we’ll show off our armies – whether they’re fully finished, nearly finished, or heroically “still in progress”.

If you’ve been building along with us and you’re not quite ready either, please feel free to take these extra few weeks too. We’re all in this together!

We’re also planning a couple more community showcase blogs in August, highlighting some of the fantastic armies you’ve been building as part of the challenge.

So keep painting, keep building, and let's get ready for Samarik.

Updated Errata and FAQ: Looks Like Rage is Back on the Menu, Boys!

Finally, we’ve published an updated version of the official Kings of War Errata and FAQ document. This update includes an important correction for Orc players regarding the Green Rage Command Order.

In the Kings of War 4th Edition Rulebook, Orcs were given the Green Rage Command Order. During development for Fracture, an alternative version of this rule was tested. In the end, the decision was made to leave Green Rage as it appears in the Rulebook.

However, due to an editing error, the alternative version was accidentally left in the Fracture book. This was not intended, and the correct version of Green Rage is the version from the Kings of War 4th Edition Rulebook. The change printed in Fracture should be ignored.

The updated Errata and FAQ document now confirms:

  • Fracture, page 166. Orcs. Remove the change to the Green Rage Command Order. The wording stays as per the Rulebook.

Apologies for the confusion on that one. We spotted the issue, we’ve corrected it, and we wanted to make sure the intended rule was made clear as quickly as possible.

Orc players, go forth and rage green.

The above is the original and still correct version of the Green Rage Command Order.

You can download the latest Errata and FAQ document below.

The relevant changes will also be made in the Companion very soon.

That’s all for today’s round-up. The Siege of Samarik is getting closer, the new horde bundles are here to help you build bigger, and the Slow Grow Challenge is marching into its final stretch.

Keep your eyes on the Mantic blog, keep working on those armies, and get ready to decide the fate of Samarik soon!

Orc Greatax Warriors Horde

The biggest and most dangerous Orcs band together into regiments of their own, outfitted in the best equipment by the Orcish warchiefs. They wear the finest armour Orc artificers can make, black suits comprised of thick plates of sheet metal beaten or cast to fit the contours of the Orc body. Thus protected, these Orcs do not usually carry the shields favoured by lesser Orc warriors – instead they carry massive weapons, too heavy to be wielded by a man. Carrying a multitude of weapons, Greatax’s are capable of raining down a flurry of punishing blows upon their enemies.

This bundle contains 40 hard plastic miniatures to build the Greatax warriors horde option in the Orcs army list.

Original price was: $100.00.Current price is: $75.00.

Orc Riftforged Legionaries Horde

Infused with the power of Halpi’s Rift, the Riftforged Leginaries are a breed apart from their green-skinned cousins. Though hunched, they stand as tall as a man, but are considerably broader and well-muscled. Their faces are bestial with jutting lower jaws and sharp teeth, but these are creatures of brutal intelligence.

This bundle contains 40 hard plastic miniatures to build the Riftforged Legionaries horde option in the Orcs army list.

The Lower Abyssals are the weakest of the creatures of the Abyss but are still wicked, cunning and vicious. Their unnatural speed and strength is terrifying to any who face them. Though concepts like ‘regiment’ are lost on their savage minds, they are often witnessed to bunch together in small groups, though whether for their own safety or simply to overwhelm the foe is not often clear.

This hard plastic kit contains 40 hard plastic miniatures and modular bases needed to build the Lower Abyssals Horde option in the Forces of the Abyss army list.
