USD The Walking Dead – Tactics – The Hilltop

Hello fellow survivors, Paul here from The Walking Dead All Out War Rules Committee. We are here to give you a sneak peak of what to expect with the some of new releases we have been working on.
Today I’m looking at the new Characters who will be joining Maggie, Sofia and Jesus in the Hilltop Faction. First we are introducing 2 new Leaders and Leader Abilities with Gregory and Dante.
The Duplicitous Tactician Gregory has the Exploitive Leader ability which once per game allows you to take away an action from ALL models in your survivor Group with a base value of less than 25pts and immediately give those actions to Models in the group with a base Value of 30pts+. This allows your bigger survivors to do more in a key turn and potentially win you the game.
Gregory is all about looking after number 1 and his other rules certainly follow that narrative. Politician is a great way to keep Gregory safe as he likes to be, giving him the chance of pushing back any enemy model that comes in to contact with him for someone in his Kill Zone. Combine this with his base defense of Blue and 5 Health he is one tough character to shift. There is much more to Gregory than meets the eye and he is a great addition to your Hilltop survivors.
The second new Leader for the Hilltop is Dante, and he is all about Melee. His Leader Ability Fighting Drill allows all Hilltop models within 6” that are unengaged to move into contact with an enemy within their Kill Zone. There is much more to this leadership than just a melee boost it really allows a good level of repositioning. Dante has 2 Special Rules, Gallows Humour and Swordfighter. Swordfighter backs up Dantes melee focused profile which allows him to re-roll blanks when equipped with a Hilltop Sword.
Dante really works well in a melee focused team. Getting in and getting the job done with Hilltop Swords to increase his potential output.
Hilltop Swords can be a pricy upgrade, but its always good to have a Blacksmith on hand to reduce the cost of them. That is exactly what we have in the next new Hilltop character Earl Sutton. Earl is an absolute Unit at 6 Health his Blacksmith Special Rule reduces the cost of the Hilltop Sword equipment card by 2 points combine this with his Forge Craft Special Rule and he is the perfect Support character for your Hilltop Group.
Next we have Harlan Carson (doesn’t he have a brother?), who is our Medical Professional for the Hilltop, I’m sure you can imagine the Special Rules he comes with. Rounding out the Hilltop are Brianna, a Marksman who provides Moral Support for the group and finally Marco a Runner who doesn’t mind being out numbered by Walkers….
Obviously I don’t want to give away all the secrets about these characters but you may be thinking that not many of these will come in at under 25pts to help with Gregorys Leader Ability and you would be right about that. So how about some Hilltop Minions. Firstly we have the Hilltop Defender at 18pts who is shooting focused and the Hilltop Guard at 17pts who is Melee focused.
So that pretty much rounds up the Hilltop Faction, except, well as you all know Mantic Games loves an Event Exclusive model and of course with the return of the Walking Dead All Out War they have once again gone above and beyond with the 2025 Event Exclusive Jesus Defender of Hilltop.
I’m only going to give a sneak at possibly the coolest and most characterful Special Rule I think Games Designer Mark Latham has came up with in Combat Dismount.
‘As a Free Action Jesus may discard an equipped Horse, Motorcycle or ATV to immediately Sneak 3”. If this move brings him into contact with one or more enemies Jesus Adds <white> to his Melee attack rolls for the rest of the turn.’
This is to represent Jesus basically doing a backflip and kicking someone in the face whilst jumping of a horse, ATV or a…. Motorcycle….
So there you have it fellow survivors I’ve gave a little insight as to what you can expect from the new Hilltop releases but there is more to each character, which you will find out for yourselves.
