The Challenge Continues!
After a few weeks of showcasing some of the awesome armies that community members have been building for the Slow Grow Challenge, we’re back with an update on how our Team Mantic challengers are getting on in Stage Two.
Dan – The Lore-Led General (Xirkaali)
DM: I’ve selected a regiment of Lionsnarl Cavalry and a regiment of Wild Fangs to bulk up my force to 1000 points and add some serious punch.
I also decided to try a bit of kitbashing – I was curious to see whether I could use the Plainstalker bodies to model the ranged option for the Lionsnarl Cavalry.

I needed to use a bit of green stuff to get the waists to line up, but overall I’m happy with how it’s turned out.

I've been busy with family commitments recently so I haven’t started painting this batch yet, but everything is now assembled and primed. I’m looking forward to getting some paint on them in the coming weeks.
Alex – The Reformed Perfectionist (Trident Realms)
AG: I’m conscious that I’m playing catch-up in Stage Two, since I didn’t manage to get my Axel Tricklebrook Champions Company completed by the Stage One deadline.
I've also been pretty busy with work and family commitments in recent weeks, so progress has also been a little slower than I’d have liked, but I’ve been chipping away at things and maintaining some forward momentum.

My Naiads and River Guard are now basecoated and washed, ready for highlighting.

I’m hoping to get them finished soon, then it’ll be on to Crokker, and to Axel himself.
Tobias – The Hobby Dynamo (Xirkaali)
TW: With only three units in my first 500 points, I’ve decided to add a mix of different units in Stage Two. I want my army to be reasonably well balanced at the 1000 point level!
I’ll be painting up a couple of troops of Yan (which can also be combined into a regiment), along with a troop of Plainstalkers, a troop of Wildfangs and a Witch Cage.

I’ve been really enjoying painting my Xirkaali, and I got into a nice rhythm during Stage One. I’ve already completed my troop of Plainstalkers, and I’ve built and primed some of the other units too – so I’m feeling confident about hitting the next deadline comfortably.
Week Nine Wrap-Up
The challengers are continuing to stick at it, each at their own pace. Tobias is well and truly living up to his “Hobby Dynamo” moniker; Dan and Alex have found that work and family life have been taking priority recently, but both have still managed to make some progress nonetheless.
Ross has been on hiatus due to the DreadBall All Stars Kickstarter campaign, but that’s now wrapped up and he’ll be rejoining the challenge soon. We’re looking forward to having him back!
That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading, and do keep sharing your own Slow Grow progress. We love seeing what everyone’s working on!
